Lifetime Achievement Award


The Lifetime Achievement Award represents the highest expression of respect and gratitude the CFSGBI bestows. It is granted to those individuals whose lifetime of clinical cleft care, research, teaching and/or leadership has significantly and uniquely advanced the delivery of cleft lip and palate care in Great Britain and Ireland.

1976                       Started MB ChB course in Manchester aged 17

1978-1982            Full time research in cleft lip and palate facial morphology at the University of Manchester

1981                       First scientific presentation on cleft lip and palate

1984                       PhD following research as above

1984                       First BAPRAS publication on cleft lip and palate

1985                       MBChB University of Manchester

1985-91                Training in General Surgery in Manchester leading to FRCS

1991-1996            Training in Plastic Surgery in Manchester, Slough, Newcastle upon Tyne and South Wales

1996                       Senior Registrar in Plastic Surgery in Adelaide with David David

1996                       Appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Newcastle upon Tyne

2002                       Appointed as Cleft and Plastic Surgeon and Clinical Lead to the Newcastle site of the Norther and Yorkshire Cleft Service

Honorary Secretary CFSGBI

Set up the Surgical SIG (now CEN)
